After using eTodo as the task manager on my iPhone, my interest was piqued on GTD apps. I found 2Do as a newcomer on the AppStore, version 1.0. It has just recently been updated to version 1.1 and the update is packed with new features and drastic improvements. After a couple weeks with this application as my sole task manager, does it claim the place of dedicated GTD app on my phone? Read the review to find out.

2Do opens up with a splash screen featuring the 2Do checkmark logo with a version number. It isn’t the prettiest start up screen, but this is just a minor flaw. Moving into the app, the user is shown a list of tasks up front. The list itself is extremely user-customizable and sortable. The application allows you to sort by status, calendar, note, due date, priority and more — all with the option of ascending or descending.

To the side of the task list, you can sort your list items into different tabbed calendars based on the type of task. Each calendar can be set up with a different color which is now choosable from an advanced color chooser, much like you’d find in an application like Photoshop.

Adding a task is an extremely quick process; especially if you are adding a few that have similar parameters. The application remembers the settings from the previous task entered, making entering a batch of tasks simple. You can assign each task unique settings for things like priority, due date, recurring settings or even a picture. Even if you create one of your tasks within the wrong calendar, it is as simple as dragging and dropping it onto the correct calendar after it has been created. The entire process of creating tasks is buttery smooth and quick, even on a first generation iPhone.

Getting deeper into the features, 2Do offers push notifications for your tasks. The notifications are extremely versatile and can be customized as a popup, an alarm or both. For those who don’t use push notifications, there is also an email notification option which works very nicely with push email.

The list of features is too large to get into for this reviews sake, but I assure you that it is an extremely functional application. Automatic filters for smart calendars, password protection, themes and so much more are what keep me coming back to 2Do. However, lets not forget about how beautiful this app really is. The styling of this application is exactly what I like; it is designed to look like a notebook and still isn’t overdone. Subtle animations surprise you the first time you delete a todo or create a new one. 2Do is another beautiful application that has won my purchase. I highly recommend 2Do for a task manager on your iPhone and I’m sure plenty more will come with updates.
